What is a Storage Combi Boiler?
A storage combi is a combination boiler that has some stored hot water inside the boiler.
What are the Advantages of a Storage Combi Boiler?
The advantages of a storage combi
boiler are
1. The storage combi boiler can supply hot water to many outlets without the
loss of
performance
associated with an instantaneous combi.
A storage combi boiler can be suitable for a large house with many people using
hot water
simultaneously. It depends on the size of the hot water
store
and the power
of the boiler
which determines the speed with which it can replace the hot water as it is being
used.
2. There is no tank of stored cold water in the loft.
This may give a better usage of the loft space (but see below).
What are the Disadvantages of a Storage Combi Boiler?
The disadvantages of a storage combi
boiler are
1. There is no tank of stored cold water in the loft.
If the mains water supply stops running due to maintenance
or a fault, then the property has no cold water.
2. The flow rate through the boiler can be unstable and this may be a problem for showers.
A thermostatic
mixer shower is recommended for use with a storage combi.
3. The store of hot water inside the boiler loses energy (it cools down).
This makes a storage combi less energy efficient than an
instantaneous combi.
4. The storage combi, like an instantaneous combi, makes a priority for hot
water usage.
See the disadvantages of an instantaneous
boiler.
