What is a Heat Only Boiler?
A heat only boiler is a central
heating boiler. It provides heat for the radiator
circuit.
It can also provide hot water but it needs to be connected to a hot water cylinder.
Compare this with a combination
boiler.
A heat only boiler is also called
a conventional boiler or a regular boiler.
It is the type of boiler that most people have in their house. The simplest type
is a standard boiler with an open
vented type of central heating system. It has a
feed and
expansion tank in the loft and heats the hot water using a gravity
fed
indirect hot water cylinder. The heating
controls are found in the airing cupboard
with the central heating pump. A sealed
central heating system can also have a
standard boiler but it needs an expansion
vessel and a filling
loop.
If the boiler has an internal
central heating pump and expansion vessel, it is called
a system boiler. If a new standard boiler or a system boiler is fitted in the UK
by law it must be a condensing
boiler because these are more energy efficient.
