What are the Different Types of Boilers?

There are a number of different types of boilers for central heating.
A boiler falls into one of two categories.
It is either a heat only boiler or a combination boiler (a combi).

A heat only boiler is also called a conventional boiler or a regular boiler.
Within this category a heat only boiler can be a standard or a system boiler.

A combi boiler can be an instantaneous combi or a storage combi.

All new boilers fitted in the UK, whether they are in the category of heat only or combi,
must be condensing boilers because these are more energy efficient.

Most boilers burn gas (some use oil) and use the heat released from the fuel to heat
water which is pumped through heating pipes to the radiators and the hot water cylinder.

The boiler which is best for you depends on the size of your property
and the number of people who are likely to want to use hot water at the same time.
Boilers come in a variety of sizes. Their power, which is measured in kW, is a measure of
their ability to heat water. A higher kW boiler will heat water more quickly but cost more to run.
