Immersion Heaters.
A hot water cylinder
will usually have an immersion heater fitted to it.
The immersion heater is sometimes the only method of heating the
water in the hot water cylinder (also called a hot water tank).
Some cylinders have two immersion heaters.
Some cylinders are mainly heated by the boiler and the immersion
heater is only used in an emergency if the boiler breaks down.
If an immersion heater is not
working, it may need replacing
or the thermostat inside may need replacing.
The immersion heater will usually unscrew after draining down the cylinder
but if the cylinder is very old and the immersion heater has been in it
for a long time, then there may be no alternative but to replace
the cylinder.
You will be advised if this is the case and no charge will be made for the
attempt to remove the old immersion heater. It will be your decision to get the
whole cylinder replaced or to call another plumber for a second opinion.
The price for replacing an immersion heater is
£95.
This includes the cost of the immersion heater, materials and labour.
The price for replacing only the thermostat is
£65.
This includes the cost of the thermostat, materials and labour.
