What is a Power Shower?

A power shower (or pumped shower) uses a pump to increase the flow rate of the water
through a thermostatic mixer to the shower head.
The pump may be separate from the thermostatic mixer
or the two may be combined in a single unit.

Only a gravity fed water supply can be pumped to increase the pressure.
In the UK it is against the law to put a pump on a mains water supply.

Increasing the pressure gives a better flow rate
but does not give a better control over temperature.
It is false economy to use an expensive pump with a cheap shower.

Some power showers have such a high flow rate that
they can use more water than a bath. This is not environmentally friendly
as well as being more expensive in terms of energy and water use.
If you have a power shower which uses too much water
then it is good practice to install a pressure reducing valve to limit the flow.
